MONO PRACTICE is excited to be working with Tiger Strikes Astroid New York and Guest Spot @ THE REINSTITUTE on a collaborative three-part exhibition featuring works from Kat Chamberlin (Brooklyn, NY), Brian Michael Dunn (Takoma Park, MD), Giulia Piera Livi (Baltimore/Philadelphia), and Doreen McCarthy (New York, NY). Expanded Dialogue opening reception will be Saturday November 9th, 2019 from 1pm-3pm, following the Guest Spot opening Friday November 8th. 6pm-8pm. The exhibit will be on view through Saturday, December 7th, 2019. Tiger Strikes Astroid Precursor to Expanded Dialogue runs October 11, 2019 through November 17.

Born in the Netherlands and raised in Turkey, Kat Chamberlin is a Brooklyn-based multi-disciplinary artist. Her work has been exhibited across the U.S and internationally, and featured in exhibitions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, The Chicago Cultural Center, and the Barbara and Steven Grossman Gallery in Boston. Kat completed her MFA in Performance Art at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is the recipient of the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship, the Toby Devan Lewis Award and the William Dole Award. Kat has been a resident at the NARS Foundation, Lynda Benglis’s Santa Fe Compound Residency, the BRIC Media Arts Fellowship and the Makrolab Station as a resident ‘lab rat’ in the Slovenian pavilion during the 2003 Venice Biennial.
Brian Michael Dunn investigates pictorial abstraction through quantized landscape pattern paintings and through painted reliefs that mimic the forms and surfaces of everyday objects. Born in Milwaukee, WI in 1982, Dunn received a Bachelor of Fine Art in Painting from Boston University and a Masters of Fine Art from Cornell University. Dunn was awarded a Mid-Atlantic Arts Council Fellowship to attend the Millay Residency, a Pollack-Krasner Fellowship to attend the Woodstock-Byrdcliffe Residency and the Ellen Stoeckel-Battel Fellowship to attend the Yale-Norfolk Summer Program. Dunn’s work has been exhibited in galleries across the region including Terrault (Baltimore), Nudashank (Baltimore), Automat (Philadelphia), Woskobb Family Gallery (PA) Fjord (Philadelphia), Creative Arts Workshop (New Haven) Gary Snyder Project Space (NYC), Fordham University Lipani Gallery (NYC), Hundred Forsyth (NYC), Public Address Gallery (NYC) and Ventana244 (NYC).
Doreen McCarthy is a sculptor based in New York City whose work has been exhibited in the United States, Europe, China and Japan since 1985. Throughout her career she has received grants, awards and residencies as, Edward Albee Foundation to Santa Fe Art Institute and Gropiusstadt in Berlin. She has had numerous solo projects including Heskin Contemporary, NY; Galerie Junger, Shanghai, China; Indiana University Institute of Art and Design and the foyer of a Philip Johnson building in Berlin, Germany to name a few.
Giulia Piera Livi is an interdisciplinary artist originally Philadelphia, now living and working in Baltimore City. She earned a B.F.A. from Penn State University and an M.F.A. from the Mount Royal School at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Her work in painting and installation is an investigation of interior space and design, focusing on abstraction and accessibility. Her immer-sive rooms employ color and form to work out ideas of multifunctional art objects and curated domesticity. Livi has exhibited both nationally and internationally with recent solo shows at Artspace (Richmond, VA), 13|U Art Windows (Washington, D.C.), VAE Gallery (Raleigh, NC), Arlington Arts Center (Arlington, VA), and School 33 Art Center’s Project Space (Baltimore, MD). She received an Individual Artist Grant from the Maryland State Arts Council in 2019 and the Trawick Young Artist Prize from the Bethesda Contemporary Art Awards in 2017. Livi is currently a Gallery Manager at C. Grimaldis and an Adjunct Professor at MICA.
